The KTA was established in 2002 as KHTA. The tennis camp began at Nicolet High School servicing both elite and beginning tennis players. Its founders being Tim Koppa, Nicolet High School's head coach for the boys and girls teams, and Kevin Heim, the previous assistant coach. The KHTA added an additional site in Grafton in 2006. The new name KTA, Koppa Tennis Academy, is a newer development. Kevin recently accepted a position as a head tennis pro back in his home state of Nebraska. He will be missed.
Tim Koppa has been the Head Girls/Boys Tennis Coach at Nicolet High School for 16 years. The Knights have won 9 team state championships during his tenure. Tim leads the doubles development where he has coached numerous state champions and runners-up. He has received numerous honors including twice being named the Wisconsin Coach of the Year (1997 & 2005) and was honored as the Midwest High School Tennis Coach of the Year in 2005. Previously, Tim coached Division I tennis at UW-Milwaukee from 1989-1994. Tim has taught tennis in the North Shore for over 20 years during the summer months. He has presented at the WHSTCA Annual Clinic on doubles and also continues to teach health/physical education at Nicolet High School. Tim recently concluded a term as president of the Wisconsin High School Tennis Coaches Association. Tim received his PTA in February of 2009.
